November Meeting

We had a fantastic turn out at our November DCC meeting with wonderful presenters and great connections and conversations among partners!

We heard from Eldon Bensen with Boys and Girls Club sharing about the new Satellite club they are opening at the South Sioux City middle schools. Erica DeLeon spoke about Mohamade Warsame sharing about a recent event that taught newcomers about preparing for winter and winter driving tips. Dawn Kimmel, SIMPCO, shared about the services they offer. Lastly, Pam Everett, who was honored for her work in helping to keep our community clean.

Why: Free will donation to support Dakota City Residents that need, gas, food, or a hotel stay.

The money is distributed by the South Sioux City Police


What: Trees of Hope

Who: Heartland Counseling Services

Why: Free Christmas trees for those in need. Also- you may donate a tree if you have one you can drop it off at Heartland Counseling.


What: Fundraiser for the Food Bank of Siouxland

When: Sunday November 18th from 4:30-7:00 pm

$11 for Adults, $4 for kids 4-12, kids 3 and under are free ($27 household maximum)

100% of your tips go to the Food Bank of Siouxland

You can bring can good too that will go to local food pantries

What: Tyson is announcing the Nonprofit Summer Job Program

Who: All non-profits

Key Points:

  • The Program provides 22 nonprofit organizations with a grant of $3,000 to hire a qualified college student to work eight weeks during the summer.
  • This is a competitive program – nonprofits must apply in the next several weeks to participate.
  • Tyson Foods has awarded a grant to Campus Compact to administer the program on our behalf.  All questions about the application should be directed to Justin Ellis at 515-235-4681.
  • The nonprofits have sole discretion for choosing which college student they hire.  Tyson Foods does not get involved with employment choices.
